2022 IDA Ballet Awards

This will be 5th annual IDA Ballet Awards Examination and we are so excited to include your ballet dancer in this wonderful program!

What are the IDA Ballet Awards?
Storm Dance Alliance IDA Ballet AwardsInternational Dance Acclaim (IDA) is a performance based ballet curriculum, not an exam or competition but an adjudicated performance opportunity creating a positive experience for every child. Every student learns and performs choreographed exercises as well as a solo dance or variation. Dancers will work on these exercises and solo pieces in their class with their instructors. At the Awards Performance, the students are critiqued by the Professional Adjudicator and all students receive a medal and certificate celebrating their performance. The awards are designed to achieve technical and artistic improvement, as well as foster a love of dance!

Where and When is the Awards Examination?
The Awards Examination will take place on May 13 & 14 at Storm Dance Alliance.

What Happens at the Awards Examination?
The week before the awards, each dancer will be given a specific time slot to attend as well as a color assignment. These will be posted on the lobby bulletin board. Please arrive 15 to 20 mins early so your dancer can warm up. Late Dancers will miss the exam. During their time slot, they will go on stage with 3 other dancers and perform their exercises as well as their solo dance. All dancers remain on the stage for the entire time. They will also get a colored wristband that will help the Adjudicator identify the dancers. You will get your wristbands the day of the performance. After their performance is finished, dancers will go to the designated waiting area to wait for the Awards ceremony. If you would like, please provide your dancer with something to do while they wait (iPad, coloring pages, small toys, etc.) Parents are welcome to take photos during the exam and awards.

What do the Dancers Wear to the Awards Examination?
Female Dancers will wear their Ballet Uniform and their white skirt (if they have one). All dancers wear PINK ballet tights with NO HOLES or RUNS! All dancers should have a nice ballet bun with no “wispies” or “fly-aways”. Use a lot of hair spray or gel to keep hair slicked back. Younger dancers are not required to wear makeup, but can wear some blush and lip gloss if you choose. Dancers 12 and up should wear light makeup (blush, mascara, lip gloss, etc.).
Male Dancers should wear a plain white shirt with form fitting black pants with ballet shoes.
